We, the undersigned, request that the American Medical Association (AMA) create a new specialty called Ovarian Specialist. This new specialty would address the field of ovarian function and would combine the medical training of both an endocrinologist and a gynecologist. An Ovarian Specialist would be able to medically treat the ovaries so they could last a lifetime, not just until a woman turns 50. Ovaries are important organs and women should be offered treatment to prevent ovarian failure (menopause). It is time for women to be given the option to postpone ovarian failure and to receive appropriate medical treatment if it occurs.
