We, the undersigned, request that the National Institutes of Health (NIH) begin an investigation into the Women’s Health Initiative clinical trial. We assert that the women recruited were not fully informed about the drug regime they were given and were misled into thinking they were given ovarian hormones in a way that mimicked the hormones produced by their ovaries before ovarian failure (menopause). It is time to stop misleading women into thinking standard hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is based on ovarian function. It is time the NIH is held accountable for misleading the public for so long.
